Corruption in the Church

Isaac Gomes
Isaac Gomes Mumbai and Kolkata are Bhai Bhai. The Archdiocese of Calcutta is no different from Mumbai as far as Corruption is concerned. Here all queries on corruption and lack of transparency are simply swept under the carpet. The irony is (this must be in Mumbai too), the archbishop, bishops and parish priests are backed in their game of corruption and total lack of transparency, by some select members of the laity who on their sole merit of boot-licking and salivating are on all Church Committees! The powers-that-be simply love them as they follow the principle “You scratch my back, I scratch yours.”. If anybody talks up to their face, they all unite together to brand the person “Anti-Church” , “Anti-Bishop” and extend that to “Anti-Christ” on being “Anti-Bishop” !

One such lay leader who wears a cross bigger than bishops and looks holier than cows, openly says Parish Priests are KINGS! You can understand he must be crawling on all his fours and calling the Archbishop of Calcutta EMPEROR or CZAR!

The other day I in the company of a friend, happened to overhear a discussion among professors at one university in Kolkata. The topic was corruption and hypocrisy of religious authorities. When one person asked a professor on the solution to this rampant corruption and absolute lack of transparency, the Professor replied “Beating, pure and simple beating. No amount of discussion will do for these religious leaders know how to dodge and play with words.”

The Church, particularly the Indian Church, is making a mockery of the word “Mercy” in this Year of Mercy!

Let like-minded Laity of Mumbai and Kolkata unite and keep highlighting issues of corruption in journals including national newspapers.

About The Voice Of Bombay's Catholic Laity

Bombay Laity Ezekiel’s Chapter 3 Task as Watchman 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18 When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for[b] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. 19 But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their evil ways, they will die for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.

One Response to Corruption in the Church

  1. Corruption is not restricted to Kolkata and Mumbai. I have feedback that the same is at Chennai,Bangalore,Goa,, Pune,Udipi just to mention a few. The administrators have taken us laity for a ride with lies lies and more lies. The cardinals and bishops are fully aware of what’s going on yet fail to take action could be due others in the administration know and may revei the skeletons in their coupboards. We have the Aposolostic Nunciao who is the rep of the Holy Father who is at New Delhi the less said of him the better. His office is so very arrogant it’s difficult to believe. At Mumbai our Cardinal has just no time for the laity. He has to impress The Vatican and the Holy Father. I see a exodus of Catholics leaving the church and joining other grouped. The Cardinal will need to answer to The Lord soon.
