 Hello friends,
You may be aware of the sales of church land at Thane sold to a local builder by the administrative authorities of the Archdiocese of Bombay.
This is just one singular case in the basket of many that have been or will be exposed to all you, my dear sisters and brothers.
Concerned practicing groups have obtained vita information through the RTI and have been in discussion with the administrative authorities of the AB house Bombay.
There has been total silence to the many many follow up we have taken.
It was therefore decided to stage a silent prayer and peaceful walk to the AB house Bombay on 21 December 2013.
A total of 65 practicing catholic sisters and brothers from Thane, Mahim, Vakola, Santa Cruz, Juhu, Girgaum took part in the walk.
Battling the dust and heat,  the groups reach the Holy Name cathedral at 1145 AM this morning and after a brief rest, said the holy rosary asking our Blessed Mother for help to save what belong to her son and the church at Mumbai.
Afternoon Holy Mass was also attended.
Shocking we were confronted with the local police who informed us that they were called to drive us away, the group stood their grounds and explained to the police it was a matter of our religion and they should not interfere as the walk was peaceful and silent.
Equally shocking was that none of the” Dharma Gurus” from the AB house cared to meet us,yet rather when it was found that the groups were steadfast in continuing the silent prayer, additional police force was brought in.
After our legal team discussed withe the local police on the aspect of local law in conducting a peaceful walk the police attempted to discuss the issue with the AB house yet no avail.
One of the clergy Neil D’Santos did come to meet the police and the people and informed the police to remove them laity from “his property” to that Adv Sodded asked him to repeat the same so that it could be recorded, Neil Santos shied away.
The Cathedral of The Holy name is a tourist attraction as it falls in a heritage site, and there were at least 30 overseas visitors who visited the place the whole day, they were shocked at what they heard and even took out pictures of the silent protest.
What a Shame when they get back home and speak about their visit to Mumbai and the catholic Church.
Also attached allow me to share some pictures including that of the local police.
So did the shepherd fear the sheep?
There will be more exposures in days to come and will be made know for all to read and seen
Wish you and your family a holy Christmas.

Parishioners of the Our Lady of Mercy Church in Thane held a demonstration at the Archbishop House in Colaba on Saturday protesting the sale of their church land in Pokhran to a builder. Terming it a land scam, they demanded that the 21,000 sq mt plot, which was sold in 2007 for Rs20 crore, be taken back.
Joe Sodder, a member of the Association of Concerned Catholics, which has rallied behind the parishioners, said, “As per the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act of 1991, where there is an existing church, no church or religious structure can be demolished.” Michael Alva, a parishioner, alleged that the church authorities have also sold a part of the plot that houses a heritage structure.
Bishop Agnelo Gracias of the Archbishop House defended the sale of the land and said, “This plot was reserved for a public playground. We feared that the municipal corporation may acquire it from us by paying a pittance and later de-reserve and sell it to a builder, who will rake in huge profits. To forestall any such misuse, we sold the transfer of development rights (TDR) of the land to a builder.”
The Bishop denied that any structure on the plot had been given a heritage tag. “We would be happy if the old church building was declared a heritage structure. As of now, it lies in ruins. Moreover, the property is disputed right now — we are fighting a case with a Hindu group which is claiming that it belonged to their deity. In any case, that part of land was not sold,” he said.
The spokesperson for Hiranandani Constructions, who bought the land, said, “The land is reserved as a green area, which we are handing over to the Thane Municipal Corporation. We had obtained the charity commissioner’s permission and purchased the plot via an open tender five years ago.”

Protest against sale of church land

A group of protesters led a rally to the Archbishop’s House in Colaba on Saturday against the “fraudulent sale of church land”, demanding the deals be cancelled; the property returned to the Catholic Church; and the officials in question be prosecuted. Joe Sodder of the Association of Concerned Catholics alleged that land in Thane, Mahim and Dadar had been sold for a pittance. “Around 2,00,000 sq ft near Mahim station was sold for Rs 2,000 per sq ft in 2008, when you could not buy for that amount even in Vasai. A plot belonging to Our Lady of Mercy church in Thane was sold to a builder for an undervalued sum of Rs 20 crore,” he said. The priest, who conducted a few of the deals, is now retired and lives in Bandra. He said, “I was the lead trustee then and did what was in the trust’s best interest. Claims that the property was undervalued are not true.” TNN

About The Voice Of Bombay's Catholic Laity

Bombay Laity Ezekiel’s Chapter 3 Task as Watchman 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18 When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for[b] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. 19 But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their evil ways, they will die for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.

  1. John Menezes says:

I recall in the nineteen sixties when the Archdiocese of Bombay started to demolish an old church, in Pokhran, Thane, which dated from the Portuguese period, the workmen discovered stones of a Hindu temple in its walls and stopped the work. Fundamentalist political parties came into the picture and the half-demolished structure came into dispute. This was reported in The Times of India and, possibly, in The Examiner.I personally visited the site and saw a stone in the walls with a floral design which may have belonged to an earlier temple. It was not far from a large water pipeline. The question arises is that when the property was transferred from the Diocese of Daman to the Archdiocese of Bombay on 1 May 1928, were any property papers for that church and plot transferred to the latter?

  2. The article reproduced below was inputs given by me.
I would appreciate and would invite the AB house Bombay or even the AB himself or Bp Agnelo Gracias to respond/rebuts.

There is no point for the AB house administration to hide any more, we have all the required documents from RTI and will now be taking our next step.
The police action at the peaceful prayer march was uncalled for and due explanation to the local Colaba police and after they approached the AB house administration, the AB house administration cut a very sorry picture and the police left with a request to the people to stage a peaceful protest.

its shameful, yet as I had mentioned early this year 2013 will be a watershed year, 2014 will see these issues at the doorstep of the local Govt departments.

Lest the exposure begin. No debates any more, just expose expose expose and shame shame shame the administration.
Wishing people of Good will a Holy Christmas.

    Seasons Greetings.

  3. can you imagine, not one of them has responded or can ever respond. It will take people with a ruler straight vision to take on these wolves in sheep clothing and correct the alleged misuse of authority within the administration of the catholic church. They have enjoyed a lot of authority without any accountability and become from The Shepherd of Jesus to a band of SS men and women ( let me tell you the nuns are no better).
It will take practicing catholics like you and me who stand for our religion to take on these satanic people. Its been said “the smoke of Satan has entered the thresholds of the catholic church”
So here you have it and experience it for yourself.
Stand up for Jesus and His glory.
