And so did the picture of Pope Francis standing next to two of the beautiful Harley Davidson bikes given to him as a gift before the huge meeting of Harley Davidson fans who gathered in Rome to celebrate the motorcycle manufacturer’s 110th anniversary celebration.
The Pope was presented with four Harley Davidsons and many wondered what Francis would do with them.
It’s hard to imagine them being ridden across the Vatican gardens at sunset for example.
Indeed, two of the bikes are going to be sold at auction and the proceeds given to charity.
And this may be where most of the presents the Pope receives on a daily basis.
The Pope has been talking about his vision of “a poor Church for the poor” ever since his election to the Throne of Peter.
The other two custom-made Harley Davidsons will go to the Vatican police force.
The two Road King Police models which look like the motorcycles used by U.S. police will have Gendarmeria (Gendarmerie) written on them and will carry the coat of arms of the Vatican City State.
They are currently parked outside St. Martha’s House, where the Pope is living and should be used to accompany foreign heads of State on their visits to the Vatican or during special ceremonies.
