Protecting the Church in India- Croydon Dsouza
And they shall be Censured- PART 2
(Dear readers, this article is based on material found in the public domain.)
If they submit to the teaching of the Church, they need not fear; whatever fantasies and illusions the devil may invent, he will at once betray his presence – St Teresa ofAvila: Way of perfection Chapter 40
To recap, in part 1 of this article, I mentioned about the U.S. Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) and how their erroneous teachings led them to be assessed by the Vatican and finally decreed to reform. I further elaborated on some of the errors they were assessed for and provided some of my interpretation of the same based on sound Catholic doctrine and Scripture.
In concluding the above, I promised to present an article relating LCWR state of affairs to our local situation, and hence this article.
Canon 1369:- A person who in a public show or speech, in published writing, or in other uses of the instruments of social communication utters blasphemy, gravely injures good morals, expresses insults, or excites hatred or contempt against religion or the Church is to be punished with a just penalty.
The two groups that epitomise Indian women theologians are the Indian Women Theologians Forum and the Ecclesia of women in Asia (EWA). And the two individuals that are synonymous with these groups are Ms. Virginia Saldanha and Ms. Astrid Lobo Gajiwala. While I will deal with Ms. Gajiwala in a separate article, here I will focus primarily on Ms. Saldanha.
(1) Public Addresses: – Whilst the public domain is used by an individual to propagate certain ideologies and theories, the same forum can be used by others to defend or contradict it. Hence one must be careful of what they publish lest it lead to faux pas. But most importantly, as a Catholic, one must be careful of what they write on a public domain, lest it be incompatible with sound, infallible Church teachings and scripture as it may be detrimental to the faith of many. Ms. Saldanha, in all her experience that she claims to have, doesn’t seem to realize that point. And so I will cite here:-
(a) Gossip: Ms. Saldanha, through her various articles, has been claiming knowledge of a Bishop who impregnated a nun. (http://www.religiousindia.org/2010/06/23/women-are-also-victims-of-clergy-sex-abuse) There is a clear speculation on the authenticity of such an allegation. She seems to be elusive of the identity of the Bishop. While she may claim discretion on her part as the reason for such silence, she would definitely not break the law of indiscretion by reporting what action she has taken in order to rehabilitate the victim.
Moreover, the said story comes under the heading ‘No shortage of evidence’. One must realize that in a court of law, canonical or civil, anonymous evidence never holds. Moreover, she cites only one example. If there is no shortage of evidence, how is there only one incident mentioned.?
This is similar to a charge against a priest in the diocese who was falsely accused of having sexual misdemeanors with many women. In the preliminary investigation, only 2 women turned up. One with unverifiable evidence and the other with no evidence at all. So how can a claim of many be made when there are none at all. (Unlike Ms. Saldanha, I do not wish to keep the name of the priest anonymous for long. Watch this space for a detailed report shortly). Moreover, there is sufficient evidence to prove Ms. Saldanha’s involvement in the above matter too. So while her claims remain questionable, her intentions for mentioning the same seems to be questionable too. Is it a possibility that such claims and efforts on her part is a sinister plot to discredit priests, who are men, and thus justify ordination of women????? We shall examine the extent of her efforts to achieve the same further.
Slander: – When Mr. Michael Prabhu titled his article ‘Bombay Bishop fathers child by Nun’, Ms. Saldanha stated that he was assassinating the character of the Mumbai Bishops. Mr. Prabhu withdrew the ‘Bombay’ from the title as soon as it was confirmed that the Bishop was not from Bombay. She doesn’t realize that when a half–baked story such as hers about the bishop, is published on the public domain; the readers are free to speculate whilst awaiting further clarification. What she has missed here is that she is assassinating Mr. Prabhu’s character by such claims on her part.
And there is the instance of Cardinal Ivan Dias. Cardinal Dias rejected Ms. Saldanha’s list of concerns, for clear reasons, which I am sure are the same as I am mentioning in this article. She assassinated his character by stating that he did not have an Asian mind and was from the Roman diplomatic corps.
Here you have a Cardinal who is respected world over for his sincerity and honesty to the Church, who has served as the Prefect for the Sacred Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, and a woman who has assassinated his character by her statement in public about him. And she does the same with our current Cardinal, His Eminence Oswald Gracias too. In her article ‘Making do with a faulty translation’, she states that she was spared the torture of having to listen to a video of the Cardinal introducing the New Roman Missal. (http://blogs.ucanews.com/give-us-this-day/2011/11/29/first-impressions-of-the-first-sunday). Doesn’t such action on her part amount to slander???????
(Her targets have always been people who have held sound doctrine and curbed some of their nefarious activities. While we have read about Cardinal Ivan Dias being a victim of her slander, so also is the priest mentioned in (a) GOSSIP, who was responsible for closing down the community centre started by her in Santacruz and disbanding the entire committee as it was promoting anti-Christian ideologies. It won’t be long before she slanders me also, I presume).
False Doctrine: – The release of the recent Vatican document ‘Theology Today: Perspective, Principles and Criteria ‘came as a sigh of relief for many Catholic apologists in India. (http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/cti_documents/rc_cti_doc_20111129_teologia-oggi_en.html) Simply because theology in India is generally arrived at using sociological and Marxist principles.
This recent document mentioned above clearly states that, theology has to be based in scripture. Furthermore it states ‘Heresy serves as a reminder that the communion of the Church can only be secured on the basis of the Catholic faith in its integrity, and prompts the Church to an ever-deeper search for truth in communion.’ So if theology is not based on Catholic faith in its integrity, it amounts to heresy.
Ms. Saldanha claims that she was drawn by ‘Liberation Theology’ (http://ncronline.org/news/women/voice-women).
Please click following link to read what Our Most Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has to say about Liberation theology (http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/benedict_xvi_cautions_against_dangers_of_marxist_liberation_theology).
Liberation theology cannot be classified as Catholic theology, as it is not based in Scripture or Tradition. Unfortunately, by her writings, it seems that liberation theology is the only theology Ms. Saldanha knows. She boasts about non-scripture based liberation theology. She theologises using the same. Thus it amounts to HERESY as her basis is not in the Catholic faith in its integrity. I will elaborate on the heresies preached further.
(2) Corporate dissent:- November 6th 1999, Pope John Paul II promulgated the document ‘Ecclesia in Asia’ (http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/apost_exhortations/documents/hf_jp-ii_exh_06111999_ecclesia-in-asia_en.html) It explains the need of Jesus Christ in Asia, and the call for Catholics to promote Him. Many of our Indian, so called, theologians criticized the document as they feared it exposed the Christians to persecution. And like the so-called theologians, Ms. Saldanha being one of them, had her opinion too.
(http://natcath.org/NCR_Online/archives2/1999d/120399/120399h.htm). She states that the document “has been made by men who are far removed from our reality in the streets of India.” She furthers goes on to narrate an incident with a Muslim friend who felt threatened by this call.
Satan is the one being who has a problem with the proclamation of the name of Jesus.. Jesus was revealed to destroy the works of the Devil (1 John 3:8b). And the command to make disciples of all nations is not Pope John Paul’s, nor is it the command of the Popes before him. But it is the command of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matt 28:19).So the dissent that these theologians display, Ms. Saldanha included, is towards the command of Jesus. Throughout the ages, the great apostles and the many Saints who followed, proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus in lands where they never visited before and places which were pagan with challenges and dangers unknown. And yet they never gave up obeying the command of our Lord. And many of these great men and women gave up their very lives in accomplishing it and their blood spewed the street of these pagan lands- this is street reality! And thus it is said ‘the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church’. And yet, these so called theologians are afraid of reactions from other faiths. Our martyrs were not as cowardly as our Indian theologians. Hence Jesus says “and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.” (Matt 10:22). So eventually, ‘Ecclesia in Asia’ is not a document made by men who are removed from our reality in the streets in India, but those dissenting are men and women who are ignorant of the tradition of the Church. Concerning such St Paul quotes “But the sensual man perceiveth not these things that are of the Spirit of God; for it is foolishness to him, and he cannot understand, because it is spiritually examined.” (1 Cor 2:14) There are other instances which show Ms. Saldanha’s dissent towards the Catholic doctrine and scripture, but I shall cover them in the next heading. What makes me wonder is that if Ms. Saldanha and her ilk show such disdain for the teachings of the Catholic Church and scripture, then what theology do they know or proclaim?
(3) Radical Feminism:- While feminism is a questionable concept, radical feminism is a definitely out of question. To begin with, feminism has no basis in the Catholic faith and scripture. Any theologizing by a feminist can only be HERESY even bordering on apostasy. I have already mentioned earlier that the Church holds no bias towards women as we are all created in the image and likeness of God (Gen 1:27). But what is more interesting is that the history of feminism has its roots in the OCCULT. There is sufficient material on the internet to support my last statement, but here are a few to get you started with: – http://www.henrymakow.com/000894.html
Moreover, theVaticandocument ‘Jesus Christ The Bearer of The Water of Life’, in section 2.3.2,
(http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/interelg/documents/rc_pc_interelg_doc_20030203_new-age_en.html ) explains how the idea of feminism was brought about by Theosophical Society founder Helena Blavatsky whose practices and ideologies are steeped in the OCCULT.
So what we finally have is a concept steeped in occultism under the guise of Women’s Rights, creeping its way into our church. If the source is occult then we are up against the forces of darkness, with Satan leading the battle through these women’s fronts.
(a) The EWA angle: – The EWA 3rd conference was held inColombo,Sri Lanka in Jan 2007. Among the participants were our very own Ms. Virginia Saldanha and Ms. Astrid Lobo Gajiwala. The Ecclesia of Women in Asia (EWA) is comprised of Catholics including women religious. As the title suggests, the Word ecclesia is a Greek word for Church and it would not be surprising if that is what these women are heading for; a separate church for women.
As all good Catholics will start their morning prayer by invoking our Lord Jesus Christ and the power of His Holy Spirit, read below how the EWA participants begin…..
She who holds the Universe in Her womb source of all creative energies
Maha Devi who conceives
and bears and nourishes
all that exists-
She is the ghanibuti
the massed condensed power of energy;
She is the sphurana
the power that bourgeons forth into action;
She is the purest consciousness and bliss,
inherent in the manifestation of all being.
Some say that there are many worlds
each ruled by a goddess or god,
but that there is just One Great Mother,
the Jagad Amba, the Makara,
Shakti of all existence,
She to whom even the gods bow down
in reverent worship and respect
anxious even for the dust of Her feet
to touch their waiting heads-
for it is Shakti who is the ultimate source,
the infinite Cosmic Energy of all that occurs,
Maha Devi of the thousand petalled lotus
(The Goddess who holds the entire universe in her womb, manifests her existence in the many Goddess images of the land of India. Knowledge of Shakti, literally power, occurs primarily in the Tantric texts. As cited in Merlin Stone, Ancient Mirrors of Womanhood, Boston: Beacon Press, 1984, pp216-17.)
The above is a prayer which is against Christian doctrine and directly breaking the First Commandment: I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt not have strange gods before me. (Ex 20:2-3)
In their first gathering (http://ecclesiaofwomen.ning.com/forum/topics/ewa-1-gathering-the-voices-of) under the heading of ‘Women and Bible’, they taught that the Bible was “the work of men written in an ethos of patriarchy.”
I am compelled to bring to your notice what the Church holds in its Document DEI VERBUM. Chapter III, 11: “the books of both the Old and New Testaments in their entirety, with all their parts, are sacred and canonical because written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, they have God as their author “ (http://www.vatican.va/archive/hist_councils/ii_vatican_council/documents/vat-ii_const_19651118_dei-verbum_en.html ).
(b)Women Priests and Catherine of Siena Virtual College:- One of the articles I wrote a while back was titled ‘Catherine of Siena Virtual College- Is it Catholic? (https://mumbailaity.wordpress.com/2012/04/02/catherine-of-sienna-virtual-college-is-it-catholic-croydon-dsouza-croydon-dgmail-com). In the article I arrived at how the Catherine of Siena Virtual College is endorsing the heresy of women’s ordination. I quoted the relevant Church documents to assert the same. What I didn’t mention there, which I am now, is that the promoter for the college in India is Ms. Virginia Saldanha. She is also a teacher/lecturer for the online college. This college is an initiative of womenpriests.org which promotes the hidden agenda of women priests. And from my above thesis and from diligent study of the whole issue I can confidently declare thattheir ultimate agenda is to see the ordination of women priests through these courses. And in all of this, Ms. Saldanha is one of their contributors. So here you have a high ranking official of the Archdiocese of Bombay, a self styled, self–proclaimed theologian, who is promoting a HERESY, whilst claiming to be concerned for the church. What a SHAM!!!!!!
(c) Jesus died for ‘many’ and not ‘all’:- The New Roman Missal has incorporated the words ‘many’ instead of ‘all’. However, Ms. Saldanha, the theologian, has this to say “because I do not believe that Christ died just for the many, but for all.” Alleluia!!!! For once she has got her theology right. Jesus died for all. However, Jesus shed his blood for many and not for all.
And he died for all, that those who live might live no longer for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised (2Cor 5:15).
The confusion of the ‘many’ and ‘all’ is this: “this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins……” The new translation has changed the ‘all’ to ‘many’. I will use two aids to explain why. One is Matt. 26:28 “
For this is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many unto remission of sins.”
The other is this article by Rev.Fr Conrad Saldanha which puts it into perspective- (Please follow the link and read for yourself http://frconradsaldanha.blogspot.in/2011/07/jesus-did-not-shed-his-blood-for-all.html).
What I can’t understand is whether Ms. Saldanha has misunderstood the’ Jesus died for all’ with ‘Jesus shed his blood for many’ or is she stating that just as Jesus died for all, so he shed his blood for all ???? Either ways, Ms. Saldanha has chosen to DISOBEY the teachings and directives of the magisterium and also the infallible words of Scripture.
So does she hold any credibility to even ask for the ordination of women priests? And to what end and purpose? To disobey everything that the Magisterium says?
Dear readers, the world is on the brink of disaster and the only hope for mankind is the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. And the Catholic Church, through all generations, has proclaimed Christ and his Gospel through all the earth. And while there still remain many who are in need of Jesus, what we do not need is somebody to attempt to undo the sacrifice of those who have suffered to preach the gospel. Here we have a choice to stand up to the heresies and those who promote it so that all may see the true light of Jesus shining amongst us. STAND UP and FIGHT. Because that’s what our Church Fathers did. They stood by the true doctrine of the Church and fought for it, even unto death.
Your service to the poor, your building of communities, your reaching out to the needy, comes to nothing if the very Church that has, through the apostles, given you the command to go forth and proclaim Jesus, lies threatened because of the deceit of the evil one.
I encourage you to also follow this link to a report prepared by Mr. Michael Prabhu, a Catholic apologist, who has thoroughly researched this matter and provided ample evidence to support it. We are already working on communicating with the Vatican on this issue and we encourage your prayer and support.
