The mail attached below is a mail which Archbishops house allegedly sent but which was never received by Gordon Jacobs. As you can see there is only a senders name in blue colour but no recepients name.
While the said mail did not state emphatically that Fr.Hugh was innocent we are happy to inform you that a letter dated June 18th 2012 released in the Examiner dated June 23rd 2012 has given Fr.Hugh Fonseca a clean chit.
We hope that this clean chit will shut the mouths of all those persons including some priests who were openly talking ill about Fr.Hugh and even instigating a few parishioners who were hurt financially due to his policies which he had implemented as per the instructions of Archbishops house.
Incidentally Mr.Errol Fernandes whom the Cardinal claims he does not know as per the below attached mail , is his neighbour from Mahim .
We are glad to know that the statement “ De mortis nihil nisi bonum: only good things are spoken of the dead ” with explanation now given in the Examiner was indeed not said for the sake of saying so.
It would have satisfied all his admirers if the said clarification had to be given at his funeral mass.Any way better late than never.

Dear Mr Jacobs,
I have your email of this of this morning.
1. Fr Hugh is no more. He is a priest who worked hard and was dedicated to his people.
2. As there were some complaints I did ask for an explanation. This was a private correspondence between an Archbishop and his priest.
3. I spoke well of Fr Hugh at his funeral because of the affection, appreciation and respect I had for him.
I do not know who Mr Errol Fernandes is nor how this letter is being circulated inNorth America. De mortis nihil nisi bonum: only good things are spoken of the dead.
With kind regards and best wishes,
Yours sincerely in Christ,
X Oswald Cardinal Gracias
Archbishop of Bombay
