Fr.Hugh Fonseca is now given a clean chit

The mail attached below is a  mail which Archbishops house allegedly sent but which was never received by Gordon Jacobs. As you can see there is only a senders name in blue colour but no recepients name.
While the said mail did not state emphatically that Fr.Hugh was innocent we are happy to inform you that a letter dated June 18th 2012 released in the Examiner dated June 23rd 2012 has given Fr.Hugh Fonseca a clean chit.
We hope that this clean chit will  shut the mouths of all those persons including some priests  who were openly talking ill about Fr.Hugh and even instigating a few parishioners who were hurt financially due to his policies which he had implemented as per the instructions of Archbishops house.
Incidentally Mr.Errol Fernandes whom the Cardinal claims he does not know as per the below attached mail , is his neighbour from Mahim .
We  are glad to know that the statement ” De mortis nihil nisi bonum:  only good things are spoken of the dead ” with explanation now given in the Examiner  was indeed not said for the sake of saying so.
It would have satisfied all his admirers if the said clarification had to be  given  at his funeral mass.Any way better late than never.

Dear Mr Jacobs,
I have your email of this of this morning.
1.      Fr Hugh is no more.  He is a priest who worked hard and was dedicated to his people.
2.      As there were some complaints I did ask for an explanation.  This was a private correspondence between an Archbishop and his priest.
3.      I spoke well of Fr Hugh at his funeral because of the affection, appreciation and respect I had for him.
I do not know who Mr Errol Fernandes is nor how this letter is being circulated inNorth America. De mortis nihil nisi bonum:  only good things are spoken of the dead.
With kind regards and best wishes,
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Oswald Cardinal Gracias

Association Of Concerned Catholics (AOCC) apreciates the belowmentioned Statement on late Fr Hugh Fonseca issued by His Eminence Oswald Cardinal Gracas in The Examiner.

AOCC upset that a personal letter between a Cardinal & his fellowpriest was leaked & was being circulated via email globally, had brought the same to the notice of His Eminence & the laity & had sought action on the leak. The said email found its way to India from US.

AOCC is glad to have been a part in ensuring that Justice be given to a priest even after his death.

Statement on late Fr. Hugh Fonseca
posted Jun 21, 2012 10:31 AM by the Examiner

I was surprised and pained to learn that a letter of mine to our late Fr Hugh Fonseca was being circulated abroad and then recently by some groups here.

I had written this letter to Fr Hugh asking for an explanation, because I had received some reports which needed clarification. This was a private letter between the Archbishop and his priest. I had subsequently met Fr Hugh Fonseca several times to discuss the matters I had raised in my letter to him.

Since the letter is being circulated, and some rumours are afloat, I write to state that I was fully satisfied that Fr Hugh did not use any of the Offices he held for his personal advantage. It would be wrong to insinuate that he received any monetary benefit from his transactions as Parish Priest. I am saddened that there are these rumours about a dedicated priest after his death. As his Archbishop, I state that our late Fr Hugh Fonseca has always been held in high esteem by me for his integrity, commitment and selfless service to the poor.

    God Bless You

Thank you Gordon and aocc for helping clear Fr Hughs name

While appreciating the letter issued by the Cardinal, I am surprised that there has been no apology about the purported email sent on a Sunday by the Archbishop.

Will the Archbishop’s house totally clarify their involvement in defamation by giving evidence on the email. May then it could be the turn of the Mumbai Laititude to issue an apology

One cannot apologize for one fraud in order to hide another fraud!

  5. Gilbert Dsouza-Parra Goa says:

Alice if you believe you will get a apology from the Cardinal, Any cardinal, bishop for that matter, please change your opinion. The clergy in India are arrogant and believe as once said they are Gods Chosen people. We the laity must rise up and reduce their so called pride to dust. This will happen soon. As for this issue on Fr Hugh Fonseca, its a great job done by the AOCC.

  6. Great job AOCC and its memers,I am sure you must be the most disliked catholic group at the Archbishops House. Dont worry we the catholic laity are with you. You people have the guts to call a spade a spade, while others either call is a rose or pretend they have not seen or heard of it. Keep up you good work.
