Why do certain Priests continue to be Parish Priests in Mumbai despite reaching 75 years of age?

The time has come when a number of priests will be transferred and so also a number of priests shall retire.A priest usually is relieved of his administrative duties when he completes 75 years of age. This means that a parish priest is relieved of his duties when he completes 75 years of age.

So also there are a number of priests who continue to get KALA PANI postings for reasons best known to the hierarchy.

The Church in Mumbai is also plagued will various issues of illegal Property sales.

There are some priests who get prime postings and are the blue eyed boys of the Bishop.St.Michaels Church Mahim is one such prime posting. Some priests specialize in sale of Church lands and continue to get postings where there are opportunities to sell Church land. Some priests continue to give their family members opportunities to earn money at the Church’s expense.

Do these factors really matter?

Why is it that Fr.Roque Almeida is not made to retire as Parish Priest despite reaching 75 years of age? Is he related to the Cardinal?

Why is it that Fr.John Rumao not made to retire as Parish Priest despite reaching 75 years of age? Fr.John Rumao is the same Priest along with Fr.Felix who were the inquiry officers appointed in Fr.Hugh Fonsecas case and who declined to examine witnesses who wrote to both of them that they wanted to be examined and give evidence .Was it done to taper the evidence towards a desired end.

Why is it that Monsg.Nereus Rodrigues not retiring as Rector despite reaching 75 years of age?

Are all these blue eyed boys being kept with a specific purpose in mind?

The Church in Mumbai has to be transparent and the transparecy has to be seen and felt and mere lip service will not do.

About The Voice Of Bombay's Catholic Laity

Bombay Laity Ezekiel’s Chapter 3 Task as Watchman 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18 When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for[b] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. 19 But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their evil ways, they will die for their sin; but you will have saved yourself.

One must understand that the parish house is a place where you can get all amenities for free. Good food and drink ,comfortable aircondition rooms as shepherds, when the sheep are sweating it our in tin houses, medical and health care, goodies for stooges who wish to take advantage of the position of priests. What more can you ask for after you have devoted the best part of your life to the church?. Yes the big question is, are you well connected to the highest or higher administration of the church or those who can influence those in’Power”. If this is not nepotism than what is it?.
However if you dont have connections then you are left to rot and die in clergy homes.
Has any one visited our clergy homes and seen to plight of those priest who have no influence with their top bosses. They are left to die.
    Sad, and shameful.
Come Visit our Clergy homes at Bandra for first hand experience.

Mr Gordon Jacobs, You have hit the nail on the head.I have cases where priests odained five years ago, and who came from humble homes, today own holiday resorts at far off places at Mumbai, Goa and Mangalore. Becoming a priest is a very lucurtive profession, dont need much education, no responsibility, no accountabily, like you also say plenty of good food and drink and aircondition comfort, some have the choice of good female companionship, expensive cars, and latest gizmos. Here we are striving for survival and these “Chosen men of God” have the best of the best. th same goes for the nuns, one must check on their Bazzar list, mutton which I cannot afford, Chicken as a daily meal, fruits in season. What more can you ask for in life.
The age old Manita was Pray,Pay and Obey. However this is fast changing and it will be ‘REFORM-RESTORE-RESTRUCTURE-EMPOWER.

      This change is coming soon.

I hope to see it happen in my life.

I am told that Fr felix is bishop bosco penhas blue eyed boy ,and was speacially picked up by bishop bosco to deliver a onesided report against Fr Hugh, with regard to Fr Nerius it is high time he is made to retire and he should not cling to power as this sets in the corruption,it is high time that priests stick to their religious duties and the laity move into hospitals ,schools and colleges,__NOW SINCE THE RETIREMENT AGE IS 75 THE CARDINAL SHOULD STICK TO IT WITHOUT ANY COMPROMISE AND TRANSFER THE POWER HUNGRY CLERGY LOCK STOCK AND BARREL(THE Cxxxx AND HIS STAFF).GREG WRITE A LETTER TO THE CARDINAL TO TRANSFER FR NERIUS ASAP AND HAVE HIM RETIRED WITHOUT HOLDING ANY POSTS IN THE HOSPITAL OR THE CHURCH
